RESTORATION: May 19th - 21st, 2010 in Chickasaw County, MS.
We are restoring the now dilapidated “Gunntown” Cemetery located near Egypt, MS. The cemetery was named after Robert Bowling Gunn (aka Parson Gunn), a prominent leader in the community, who is buried there along with his wife, Frances Norris Greene. Between 1856 and 1935, seventy (70) or more of the Gunn, Greene, Gillespie and related families (Simril, Peel, Richardson, Andrews, Haughton, Fuller...) were buried in this family graveyard. All are invited to participate in any of the following ways: tree & brush removal, raising & mounting of tombstones, cleaning tombstones, photographing & mapping the cemetery.
GATHERING: May 22nd, 2010 in Aberdeen, Mississippi.
As family members, we are gathering to establish and build relationships, to learn about our forefathers and visit the places where they lived, to share and preserve pictures, documents, artifacts and family information, and to honor individuals who have worked to record and maintain our family heritage. Activities will begin Friday evening May 22nd and conclude the following evening with a dinner and recognition program.
